Fly fishing Switzerland in summer offers among the most wonderful time to be outdoors. Yet, certain species struggle with the warmer temperatures.

Summertime Fly Fishing Switzerland
Summer is approaching quickly and with it one of the best times to go fly fishing in Switzerland. The temperatures rise and allow for wonderful days and nights outdoors. The days are long and extended fishing trips rekindle great memories. However, summer has its drawbacks too, especially for certain fish species.

Threats when
Even though insect numbers are declining, there are still hatches to be found in remote areas. However, when fishing for salmonids, anglers should be aware of the stress that fish experience with rising temperatures. Only last summer, Switzerland experienced a heatwave which caused many fish species to suffer and die. Among them were trout but also grayling, which subsequently were protected in certain regions for this season to recover. The fish mortality also showed that it is more useful to deepen the confluence of tributaries to keep the water cold, than relocating fish themselves. Once again fish are aware of such threats and have their own strategies to cope with them.

Therefore, anglers are advised to be mindful about environmental conditions. It might be necessary to relocate to higher elevation and colder climes, or even refrain from fishing at all. I hope there will not be such a hot summer again, though I am looking forward to great weather.

Recent Fly Fishing adventures
Recently, I found more time on and mostly in the water, after I handed in my master’s thesis. I went fishing with André in a private river which offered wonderful scenery. Furthermore, there was the chance to catch huge trout. Yet, I was not lucky this time, but enjoyed the company at the river. Moreover, I finally went fishing my home waters again. They surprised me an Jan with a stunning fish too although the surrounding is not that convincing.
